January 21, 2025
On January 21, 2025, Therapicasso continued to pursue their mission, by trying to improve the mental health of those in the community and how they express their thoughts, both negative and positive, in a healthy manner. In order to achieve this goal, they allowed kids to focus on themselves through a creative form of art in the event: The Rorschach Inkblot Workshop with students at Northrup Elementary School. Through this creative project, Therapicasso gave kids a safe space and environment to express themselves openly on paper and with ink. They collaborated with the kids at Northrup Elementary School to not just build a community, but allow youth to acknowledge that their feelings are good and use their innermost voice through their art style. This allowed the kids to dig deeper within themselves and think about their emotions, as well as themselves as a whole.
The Rorschach Inkblot Workshop was designed specifically for students to dive deeper into their imagination, as a kid’s imagination knows no bounds and expresses their rawest and most intense feelings as a kid. This ultimately allowed these students the time to express themselves, as well as to explore their creative side, building a community with other students around them.
Students at Northrup each seemed to have different ways of picturing themselves and their emotions. Through their artwork, they get to connect with themselves better and let others around them see the student in a new light. A student at Northrup Elementary School proudly shows his artwork at the Rorschach Inkblot Workshop. The pride is evident in his expression as he shows the camera a new side of himself that he hasn’t been able to explain in words.
The abstract aspects of his artwork epitomizes the idea of the Rorschach Inkblot Workshop through using his creativity to create a unique art piece . The concept of his artwork allows him to express his individuality. Even though to some people it may seem like any other art piece, this is the student's way of expressing himself to the audience, allowing him to be seen and heard without words. He was able to achieve this through his artwork's depiction of originality and his personality. Overall, this workshop allowed students at Northrup Elementary School to create art pieces that not only show off their creativity but tell the viewer "This is me and this is what I’m going to show those around me.”
Therapicasso’s founders Gabby/Lex Wong and Joshua Ferriere are shown in the photo building a community with the kids of Northrup Elementary School - building a safe space for them, to let them know that they aren’t alone in their struggles. They are patiently leading and inspiring their younger peers on the importance of self expression using creativity. The Rorschach Inkblot Workshop tells a story of individuality, each person feeling a different way depending on how the artwork speaks to them which is what makes the experience unique.
